What can I do?
As a Data Engineer, you become part of a well-oiled machine. Together with a team of talented professionals from various disciplines, from Interaction Designers and Cloud Engineers to Industry Experts, you get to grips with the customer’s problem. By using a strict process and keeping control of the technology, you can build a solution within a few months that would take others years to complete.
The first few days of a project are always in the context of research. You really have to understand the problem. By organizing workshops with the customer and applying Design Thinking, a design is often ready within a week, which everyone supports. Then it’s time to let go. Sometimes just a few weeks, sometimes a few months. But then it’s done – a future-proof and scalable solution that exceeds customer expectations. They can do the maintenance themselves, because you and your team will continue with the next job.
Cool, do I need to bring anything?
A good foundation is the most important thing. That’s why a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science or a similar study comes in handy. Of course, a few years of experience with Big Data tools/technologies: Python, PySpark, Apache Spark, and other data processing technologies. Also, experience with AWS would be a great preference. Of course, there are also some nice to have, like experience with CICD tools like Jenkins, CircleCI, and exposure to Github/ Bitbucket.
