Want your work to make a real, tangible difference to people’s health? Here, every software release goes straight into surgical equipment that makes procedures shorter and safer, and helps patients get back to enjoying their lives.
What do they actually do?
They design and build high-precision surgical equipment and instruments used by surgeons around the world. They are an established medtech company with decades of history. They recently became part of a leading global technology group and are growing into a larger international organisation. Surgeons try out new innovations at the company’s own research facility, so you see exactly how your work lands in the clinic.
What can I do?
You join the Technology Development team, which works at the very start of the product lifecycle: research, benchmarking and quick-to-fail prototyping. Your job is to tame complex mechatronic systems. You run feasibility studies and proofs of principle, design and test control algorithms, and architect embedded systems that end up in surgical equipment. You take concepts all the way from system-level thinking to verification. You also help optimise products already in the field and document your work to medical-grade standards. The team works in scrum, communicates openly and leaves egos at the door.
Do I have what it takes?
You hold an MSc or PhD and have at least 5 years of experience in multidisciplinary teams. You also have a proven track record in applied research and technology derisking across multiple projects. Control theory is your home turf, including discrete PID controllers, filters and motor control on microcontrollers. You’re fluent in:
- Embedded C on microcontrollers and DSPs
- UART, SPI, I2C and volatile/non-volatile memory
- MATLAB, Simulink and Stateflow, including code generation
Some experience will set you apart: FPGAs (VHDL, Xilinx, Zynq), Python, safety-critical standards such as MISRA, IEC 61508, IEC 62304 or IEC 60601, and hands-on electronics lab work.
What’s in it for me?
You earn a salary of roughly €70,000 to €81,000 a year, including 8% holiday pay and a 13th month, plus a bonus scheme. A full-time week comes with 27 holidays and 13 extra days off. The pension is fully paid by the employer, so your net pay is noticeably higher. You also get a travel allowance and a 50% hybrid setup. The office is just south of Rotterdam and is best reached by car.
Coming from abroad? For candidates with 10 or more years of experience, visa sponsorship is available. Relocation support includes two months of help finding a home, a €3,000 net relocation budget and flights for you and your family.
On top of that, there’s a full lab, a great company restaurant and plenty of room to learn. Most of all, your work helps people live healthier, fuller lives.
