What you’ll be working on

We are looking for a pragmatic and forward-thinking Staff Backend Developer to join a team that builds and evolves a large-scale, high-traffic platform used by millions of users every day. Your work focuses on designing and delivering scalable, reliable, and maintainable backend solutions that create real impact for both the platform and its users.

In this role, you take end-to-end ownership of complex backend challenges. You work across teams and domains, shaping how services, APIs, and distributed systems are designed and evolve at scale. You help define technical direction and architectural standards, and you play an active role in driving alignment across engineering teams. As part of the Backend chapter, you promote strong engineering practices around coding, testing, tooling, and collaboration, and you contribute to improving how teams build software together. You also mentor junior and mid-level engineers, supporting their growth and raising the overall technical bar. You work in a hybrid setup, collaborating in person at least once a week, and you’re supported in continuously growing your skills and career.

What you bring

You bring extensive experience as a backend engineer in large-scale, high-traffic environments, with a proven track record of delivering impact across multiple teams and systems. You have deep experience building and evolving distributed systems in JVM-based ecosystems such as Java, Kotlin or Scala, and you are comfortable working in complex event driven microservices architectures. You have strong hands-on experience with cloud environments like AWS or GCP and have worked with a wide range of technologies including Kafka, Elasticsearch, RabbitMQ and Terraform. You are confident working with both relational and NoSQL databases such as MySQL and Cassandra, and you design and build robust REST APIs as part of large-scale systems. You also have solid experience with observability tooling such as Grafana, Prometheus, Datadog or Kibana and understand how to operate and monitor production systems effectively.

Beyond your technical foundation, you have a strong background in system design and have contributed to the evolution of domain level and platform level architectures, making thoughtful trade offs between performance, cost, scalability and autonomy. You are experienced in modern engineering practices such as experimentation, incremental delivery and working in Agile, outcome driven environments where learning and iteration are key. You bring a continuous improvement mindset, challenge the status quo and think critically about how systems are used in real world scenarios. Bonus experience in ML and GenAI productionization such as model serving, real time and batch inference, feature pipelines, monitoring including drift, data quality and alerting, and safe rollout strategies like feature flags and canaries is highly valued. You are also comfortable working with Python and notebook based workflows such as Jupyter or Colab and you communicate clearly with both technical and non technical stakeholders while collaborating effectively across teams.

What you get in return?

You’ll receive a competitive gross annual salary between €84,000 and €110,000, depending on your skills and experience. In addition, you’ll receive an annual bonus, rewarding the impact you make on the backend systems and the evolution of a large-scale, high-traffic platform.
