The Legal industry has many different branches, from law firms and the different forms of law to legal aid. What is almost always at the core though, is the collection, organization, and analysis of large amounts of information. That’s why the developments in IT (information technology) are having a major impact on the legal industry and keep that world in constant motion.
The digitalization of the legal industry recently got its own name, LegalTech. In some cases, this means nothing more than the digitalization of information and the automation of manual tasks. In other cases, it’s about bigger, more complex solutions like an online platform that gathers jurisprudence from different databases and allows users to search it and extract information. Or online legal aid, for example. Or even a Virtual Legal Assistant. The number of start-ups that focus specifically on the legal industry is increasing because of this. Between 2015 and 2018 at least 36 new LegalTech companies were founded.
