Inland vessels arriving at the port, terminals clearing space, planners coordinating every move. Without a smart system, things can quickly get chaotic. A smooth, efficient, and reliable planning process is essential. Are you excited to work with such systems and make them even smarter, faster, and more efficient? Then this role as a Business Analyst is for you!
Is that what this company does?
Exactly! They prevent endless phone calls, delays, and frustration with a centralized planning system powered by smart, complex algorithms. Inland vessels, terminals, and depots share their schedules and available capacity, and the system automatically calculates the most efficient distribution. At a glance, it’s clear which ships can go where and when.
And they’re doing it well! Today, more than half of all inland shipping in the Port of Rotterdam is coordinated through their system. To stay ahead, they continuously listen to users, identify areas for improvement, and fine-tune their system. So, on their way to becoming the best of the best they could use an expert like you!
What will I be doing?
It’s all about data, technology, and logistics. As a Business Analyst, you ensure inland shipping in Rotterdam runs smarter, faster, and more efficiently. You analyze data and identify bottlenecks, and you optimize the algorithm for smoother operations. You translate logistical challenges into practical solutions, helping terminals, depots, and barge operators work seamlessly together.
Working with the Product Development team, you develop the planning algorithm and data platform further. You create use cases and test cases to validate new features and ensure that system improvements are implemented. This involves close collaboration with colleagues, IT partners, and external stakeholders to make sure the system aligns with real-world operations. Data is your tool. You dive into numbers, analyze patterns, and translate insights into concrete improvements. Additionally, you work closely with users and stakeholders to ensure that the system is not just technically solid, but also actually makes their work easier. And, of course, before any new features go live, you thoroughly test them to ensure they work flawlessly.
Sounds good! But do I have what it takes?
We think you do! You have a university degree, preferably in econometrics, mathematics, or (technical) business administration. Plus, 3–5 years of experience in a similar role, where you worked with data, algorithms, and complex systems. You enjoy analyzing processes, quickly spot areas for improvement, and understand the impact of changes within an integrated planning system.
Your conceptual thinking helps you connect data and operational results, seeing how even small changes can affect the bigger picture. Large datasets don’t scare you! You translate them effortlessly into meaningful improvements. Besides, you’re not just good at spotting what needs to change, but you take action, continuously optimize, reduce errors, and always stay a step ahead. Complex problems can you explain clearly and you translate the needs of colleagues and external stakeholders into practical system improvements. Presenting, discussing, and aligning with different teams is no problem. You work independently, see what needs to be done, and don’t wait for things to sort themselves out.
Great! But what’s in it for me?
We get it! You deserve more than just a great view of the port! Expect a monthly salary between €5.000,- and €6.000,-, based on your knowledge and experience. Holiday? 25 days per year with the option to purchase extra days. They’ll also set you up with a company laptop and phone and cover your commuting expenses. Ready for this challenge?
